Cowboys and Fantasy

Traditional fantasy consists of an adaptation of the middle or dark ages in European history. Some authors adopt Asian history as an element of world building.

However, I think it's pretty boring. I think from Tolkein to today we've killed this setting. More, I find it boring. The setting and inspiration never really change.

So, I think I'd like to see people try something new. Take traditional fantasy and apply a dab of the American West, mix in the Native American cultures, throw in a piece of dragons, horror, the paranormal, or whatever and show me whatcha got. In less than 6000 words.

I'll put it on johnhattaway.com/writing, we'll enable voting and person with most votes wins. Not sure what just yet. Maybe a book. Maybe a gift card. Maybe just bragging rights.

In any case, you get extra points for my contest for entering fiction here.
